Space



According to NASA,this Urine Processor Assembly managed to get through three rigorous testing sessions, and apparently was good enough for officials to leave it in orbit; but no one takes the first sip - $154 million water recycling system which is designed to convert sweat, moisture and urine into digestible fluid .

Space Debris U.S. scientists are looking for a way to clear the clutter in space, which some say is becoming troublesome on the heavenly highways. So far, ideas have fallen into two buckets -- limiting new debris and eliminating existing debris. The space junk problem is increasing, in part because of collisions between materials in space, rocket stage failures and activities such as anti-satellite testing. "Even though recent efforts have been successful in minimizing the amount of new debris, the number of debris pieces continues to increase, if space-faring nations continue to ignore this growing space access challenge, we will reach a gridlock situation in which launching satellites is too risky.” According to space.com .

Optical Illusion



A list of some of my favorite illusions :
Some double meanings, motion-induced blindness, and mind bending perspective distortion just to confuse you.
If you never been to a haunted house before, you get to see one above, you probably will see some young girls around the house if you look at it long enough.







1) Elephant with many legs or misplace legs? How many legs it really has?
2) A swarm of larvae set against a fluorescent green background or moving bugs against green background ?
3) An image of two people about to make out. Or, it's a nice all-white candlestick?
4) Equal or unequal distance between arrow?
5) Creepy little creatures of seemingly different sizes run through an underground tunnel in a maniacal attempt . They look different... But are they?
6) Is the rectangle moving toward you or away from you?







1) If you do not see two different words, then it's time for you to get an eye exam.


2)If you are not seeing any turning wheel, you are alright.
But in case you see them turning, don't worry, they are just illusion .

Red Planet




Phoenix successfully landed in "red planet" few days ago after Delta II launched 2007. It starting to collect Martian's surface soil sample in scoop for analysis. Following are some of the events taken place leading to the successful landing:

(1) Phoenix is hurtling towards Mars at 16,000 mph and is minutes away from entering the atmosphere.

(2) The lander glides towards Mars just after its parachute is deployed.

(3) The sophisticated landing system on Phoenix allows the spacecraft to touch down within 10 km of the targeted landing area. Thrusters are started when the lander is 570 m above the surface.

(4) The Phoenix Lander begins to shut down operations as winter sets in. The far northern latitudes on Mars experience no sunlight during winter. This marks the end of the mission because the solar panels can no longer charge the batteries on the lander and the frost covering the region as the atmosphere cools will bury the lander in ice.

Newly found underneath red soil, the material is unknown until further digging by robotic arm, scientist believes it is a piece of water-ice slab.

Space Inflatible Habitat




1st prototype habitat was successfully lofted into orbit atop a converted Russian inter-continental ballistic missile by Genesis 1 spacecraft. When compressed, the habitat measures 5 meters (15 feet) in length and 1.9 meters (6.2 feet) in diameter. Once in orbit, it’s designed to inflate to roughly twice its compressed width. target orbit of 550km altitude at 64 degrees inclination. The spacecraft is carrying staff photographs and memorabilia, as well as insects. it’ll stay in orbit for 5 years, It’ll be exposed to years of solar radiation and cosmic rays, and should get peppered with orbital debris. The internal temperature of the spacecraft is reported to be 26 degrees Celsius.

Polar Composition

Mercury
Mercury Pole Despite its close proximity to the sun, nighttime temperatures on Mercury can drop as low as -183° degrees C (-297° degrees F). Because of this, and the fact that it has very little atmosphere to keep it warm, it is possible for ice to exist on Mercury. Radar imaging of Mercury shows that ice is possibly stored in permanently shadowed craters at both poles.


Venus
Venus Pole A "polar dipole" has been observed at Venus' north pole. A polar dipole is a vast vortex that rotates around the pole and is bounded by a "polar collar"
(a ring that surrounds the polar regions).


Earth
Earth Pole Extreme cold temperatures and heavy glaciation occur at both of Earth's poles. Polar ice caps made of water ice rest on land at the south pole (continent of Antarctica) and on ocean at the north pole (Arctic Circle). Extreme variations in daylight hours occur, with 24 hours of daylight in mid-summer and permanent darkness in mid-winter.


Mars
Mars Pole Mars has polar ice caps consisting of both water ice and carbon dioxide ice. Both caps contain a permanent, year-round ice cap made of water ice and a seasonal cap of carbon dioxide ice that forms in winter and disappears in summer. In the northern polar region, the permanent cap is made of water ice, while the southern permanent cap is mostly carbon dioxide ice mixed with some water ice.


Jupiter
Jupiter Pole Jupiter's polar regions have auroras, similar to the Northern Lights on Earth. In addition, a "Great Dark Spot" swirls near Jupiter's north pole, which scientists believe is a curious side effect of Jupiter's powerful auroras.


Saturn
Saturn Pole Saturn is a large, gas planet that spins very fast on its axis. Because of the centrifugal force associated with the rapid spinning, Saturn's equator bulges and its poles are "flattened."


Uranus
Uranus Pole Uranus is so tilted on its axis that it rotates on its side. Because of this, its poles are sometimes pointed directly at the Sun. For part if its orbit, one pole faces the sun continuously, while the other pole faces away. Scientists are uncertain which of Uranus' poles is south and which is north.


Neptune
Neptune Pole Because Neptune's axis is tilted 30 degrees, its poles remain in constant sunlight for 41 years during the summer season. Bright regions have been observed at the poles, which are thought to be produced by a haze of ice crystals.


Pluto
Pluto Pole Pluto's polar regions are made of frozen methane and nitrogen. During orbit phases when Pluto is closer to the Sun, the methane and nitrogen thaw, rise, and form a temporary atmosphere.

Supernova occurs when a massive star runs out of fuel, collapses under gravity and explodes. This violent explosions of massive stars were common in the early universe, it is a hundred times more energetic than a typical nova.

An example of super nova is SN 2006gy. Eta Carinae star is an impending candidate for future supernova 7500 light year away .

Red square-It was created by a dying star spewing its innards from opposite poles into space

Dark matter-This ghostly ring is strong evidence for the existence of dark matter. Although astronomers cannot see dark matter, they can infer its existence by mapping the distorted shapes of the background galaxies.

White dwarf-This star is ending its life by casting off its outer layers of gas, forming a cocoon around the star's remaining core

Light echo-Light from an erupted star continues outward through a cloud of dust surrounding the star

Antimatter- Annihilating material is generated when stars get ripped apart by black holes or neutron stars, , thousands of stars swirl around the super massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.

Space Photo

A nebula is simply a large cloud of interstellar gas, dust and plasma. Often seen in the dark night sky as beautiful bright bursts or color, nebulae are created by both the formation and destruction of stars.

Carina nebula- 50-light-year-wide view of the central region of the Carina Nebula where a maelstrom of a star's birth and death is taking place.

Orion nebula- a cavern of roiling dust and gas where more than 3,000 stars are forming.

Swan nebula- a bubbly ocean of glowing hydrogen gas and small amounts of other elements such as oxygen and sulfur within the Omega or Swan Nebula.

Boomerang nebula- which is a reflecting cloud of dust and gas with two nearly symmetric lobes of matter that are being ejected from a central star.




Helix nebula- a cosmic starlet notable for its vivid colors and eerie resemblance to a giant eye.

Eskimo nebula- glowing remains of a dying, sun-like star, it resembles a face surrounded by a fur parka.

Eagle nebula- a tall, dense tower of gas.

Crab nebula- A six-light-year-wide expanding remnant of a star's supernova explosion

Saturn's moon - revealed its sponge-textured surface. This image was colored to bring out the surface's details. Hyperion has a notably reddish tint when viewed in natural color.

Mercury-images of the planet closest to the sun.

Pluto-the presence of two new moons around planet Pluto. Pluto is in the center and Charon is just below it. The moons are named, from far right, Hydra and Nix, respectively.

Galaxy

Whirlpool galaxy- resemble spiral of sink water go down drainage.

Sombrero galaxy-a brilliant white, bulbous core encircled by thick dust lanes comprising the spiral structure of the galaxy.

A so-called "Death star galaxy" blasts a nearby galaxy with a jet of energy.

Jupiter-the five spots scattered across the upper half of the planet are actually a rare alignment of some of Jupiter's moons and the shadows they are casting.

North pole of Jupiter's fourth largest moon, Io, spews a giant plume of dust 200 miles into space.


Puzzling haze that brightened and dimmed over Venus' southern latitudes in 2007. The haze moved toward the equator and then back to the south pole.
